Comments Re: spells where you can see words but you can't read them- no idea My daughter has never had an abnormal test, but she still has seizures. Different types, have complex partial, simple partial and sensory attacks. This use is very disturbing to me. How could he have so many seizures and none of that in a test? It was explained to me that if she was doing seizure activity at the time she could not appear. Several doctors have witnessed their seizures so they gave us are to tell us about it and the symptoms. My daughter sometimes sees words even her own name and sometimes she can't read them but if I spell them out loud she can almost all the time tell me what they are. This is caused by two reasons with its-one is convulsions of absence and the other is a problem with visual processing. Have your child try for an IEP. That will help solve some things. Re: spells where you can see words but you can't read them... I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy after having two major mal seizures (his classic falling and stirring seizures). I also have episodes like you describe that last, usually less than a minute at a time, but they happen quite often. A neurologist suggested that these could be related to seizures and could be minor seizures in their own right. Re: spells where you can see words but you can't read them... I've been diagnosed with TLE for 3 years (they've had more time than that tho), and I have reading problems ... I read a lot of books and I can read fast, have an engineering degree. However, I have a simple type of seizure when I read sometimes because I suddenly notice that I cannot remember what I read, confuse me. So I start that paragraph really very slow and still as I read the words with my eyes, my brain sees other words and doesn't make sense, then I want to have a dream. I'm actually reading the words out loud even and still my brain doesn't catch them. Re: spells where you can see words but you can't read them... When I had seizures I used to read and suddenly I couldn't recognize a word. Then I could read again. I never talked to a doctor about it, but looking back I think it was probably just partial attacks.
